A very large share of the people living along this road work somewhere between Silom and Asok, and they spend between an hour and an hour and a half getting there each way. That shapes both the demand and the complaint.

The demand pattern is late. Nothing much happens here before half past seven on a weekday because the district is empty, and then it becomes busy quickly and stays busy until midnight.

The complaint pattern is specific. An hour and a half of standing on a train and sitting in a van, twice a day, five days a week, produces neck, shoulder and lower back problems that are quite distinct from a purely desk-based version of the same thing.

The traffic pattern is the practical constraint. Lat Phrao Road between five and eight is slow along its whole length, and out past the middle sois there is no parallel route. A nine o clock booking will both arrive more reliably and get you a shorter wait than a seven o clock one.

Several of the sois off Lat Phrao are substantial roads in their own right rather than side streets, and Chokchai 4 is the clearest example. It runs off the main road and carries its own markets, restaurants, schools and housing for a considerable distance.

For a booking that matters because a building on one of those sois may be a long way from Lat Phrao Road itself, and the journey in is on a road with its own traffic rather than a quiet lane. Saying you are on Lat Phrao when you are actually a kilometre down Chokchai 4 will produce an estimate that turns out to be wrong.

These larger sois also have their own numbered sub-lanes, which is where most of the housing sits. A full address here is the main soi, the sub-lane and then the house, and dropping the middle part is the commonest cause of a therapist arriving at the right soi and the wrong end of it.

The upside is that these sois have their own local life, which means she can usually find a landmark to navigate by. A market, a school, a temple or a well-known shop does more work here than a house number.

At the western end it meets Phahonyothin at the interchange, and across that junction is Chatuchak and the market district, covered on its own page.

Southward, Ratchadaphisek runs down toward Sutthisan, Huai Khwang and the whole MRT corridor, which is a different sort of district entirely despite starting at the same crossroads.

North eastward the road simply continues, through Bang Kapi and out toward the ring road and Nawamin. We cover all of it and the arrival window keeps lengthening as you go.

The sois themselves run a considerable distance either side of the main road and connect through to Ratchadaphisek in the south and Phahonyothin in the north, so a building on a high-numbered soi may be closer to another main road than to Lat Phrao itself. If yours is, say which road you actually come out onto.

This is the district where the distance question comes up most, because the far end of this road is genuinely a long way from the middle of Bangkok.

The treatment price does not move. Sixty minutes of traditional Thai is nine hundred baht at Soi 5 and nine hundred baht at Soi 130, with no minimum booking anywhere along the road. What does change along it is the transportation support fee, since the far end sits a long way outside the seven kilometre free radius, and we put that figure in the total we send you rather than leaving it to the door.

What distance changes is the wait, and we quote that honestly by soi number rather than giving one figure for the whole road that would be wrong for most of it.
