A four hands massage is one person being worked on by two therapists simultaneously, usually in mirror image, so that both sides of the body receive the same stroke at the same moment. It is the same oil technique as a standard massage, delivered twice over.
The reason to book it is not that it covers more ground in the hour, though it does. It is that the brain cannot track two sets of hands at once. After a minute or so it stops trying, and what follows is a distinctly different experience from any single-therapist massage.

Why two sets of hands feels different
During an ordinary massage part of your attention follows the therapist. You know where her hands are and you half anticipate where they are going next. That tracking keeps a corner of you alert for the whole hour.
With two therapists working symmetrically, the prediction fails. There is no single thing to follow, and the mind gives up trying within the first minute or two. People describe the result as the difference between relaxing and actually switching off.
The therapists work in time deliberately, which takes practice. It is not two people massaging you independently. Ours pair up regularly so the timing is genuinely matched.
What actually happens in the hour
Setting up
One sheet, your own bed, the same undressing and towel arrangement as any oil massage. The two therapists start at your feet, one on each side, and work upward in mirror.
Both therapists
The pattern usually breaks halfway through, with one moving to your head and shoulders while the other stays on your legs, which is the point most people say they lose track entirely. They come back into symmetry for the last stretch.
Finishing
Sixty minutes of four hands covers roughly what ninety minutes of one therapist would, so it is not simply an indulgence if your time is short.
Space, and what the room needs
More room than a single massage, but less than people expect. Two therapists need to stand on opposite sides of the bed, so a bed pushed against a wall is the one arrangement that does not work.
Most hotel rooms are fine. Standard condo bedrooms are usually fine. If your bed is against a wall on both sides, say so when you book and the therapist will plan how she works around it.
Who it suits
People who have had plenty of massages and find their mind wanders through them. Anyone with one evening in Bangkok who wants the most out of a single hour. Frequent travellers who are hard to actually relax.
It suits you less if you have a specific problem area, because symmetrical work by definition splits attention across the whole body rather than concentrating it. For a stubborn shoulder, one therapist doing deep tissue will achieve more.
It is also not the treatment to start with. If you have never had a massage, begin with the oil massage and come to this later.
Four hands is not the same as a couples massage
The two get confused constantly. Four hands is two therapists working on one person. A couples massage is two therapists working on two people, one each, in the same room at the same time.

Which length to book
Sixty minutes of four hands covers roughly what ninety of one therapist would, so an hour is genuinely enough here in a way it is not for deep tissue.
Ninety is what people book the second time, once they know what the effect is and want longer inside it. Beyond that the returns flatten, and two hours of four hands is a lot of sensation to process.
If your evening is short and you want the most from it, this is the treatment where an hour buys the most.
Where we bring four hands
Anywhere two therapists can reach both sides of a bed, which rules out only the rooms where the bed is pushed against a wall. That is more common in compact condos than in hotels.
It needs slightly more notice than a single booking, particularly late at night, because two therapists have to be free at the same time and heading to the same address. An hour of warning makes a real difference.

- Is four hands the same as a couples massage?
- No. Four hands is two therapists on one person. A couples massage is two therapists on two people, one each, at the same time in the same room.
- Do the two therapists move in exact unison?
- Mostly, and deliberately. They mirror each other for much of the hour and split for a section in the middle. Ours work in regular pairs so the timing is matched.
- Does my room need to be large?
- Only enough that one side of the bed is reachable, and both sides is better. A bed boxed in on three sides is the one setup worth mentioning in advance.
- Can I have it as a deep tissue?
- It is possible but rarely worth it. Four hands is built around symmetry and coverage, while deep tissue is about concentrating on one place. Pick one or the other.
